This short file can help you test Multi-Print's fonts, as well
as those your printer offers.
Please print this: 1. Using several of MP's print options; and,
2. Using different fonts.
* In most cases you'll find that MP's fonts are much more complete
than those your printer offers. By "complete" we mean that MP's
fonts contain almost all printable ASCII characters.
* In some cases, we've edited characters to let you print check
boxes, arrows, bullets, etc.
* A few ASCII characters are not printable. Printers "act on"
rather than print these characters: ASCII 9 (tab), 10 (line
feed), 13 (carriage return) and 12 (form feed).
* Also, please understand that some printers simply can't print
other characters. Original LaserJets and the LaserJet Plus, for
example, can't print certain low and high ASCII characters.
They'll print blanks instead.
* Finally, in MP's LaserJet and DeskJet fonts, some characters are
"elongated" to let you draw lines and boxes without having to
add "high ASCII characters" to text. The reason for this is
that in some word processors adding high ASCII characters is
harder than adding normal keyboard characters. By elongating
a few characters, MP lets you use your keyboard to draw "simple
graphics. For example:
This is character 205 ═══════ This is the equal sign ========
This is character 196 ─────── This is the hyphen --------
┌──────┐ +------+
This box is high ASCII │ │ This uses keyboard + - | | |
└──────┘ +------+
These are 16, 205 & 17 ═══ Here are < = > <===>

In landscape modes:
───────────────────
MP can print most ASCII characters because they're built into MP's
landscape fonts. On Epson printers you *must* use MP's font --
since Epson dot matrix printers don't have landscape fonts. On
LaserJets and DeskJets you have a choice between using MP's or
"resident" fonts. With "resident" fonts you may be unable to print
certain low and high ASCII characters.
In Portrait Modes:
──────────────────
In Normal, 1-column portrait mode, MP uses your printer's resident
fonts. Therefore, you may be unable to print certain low and high
ASCII characters. Or, you may get italic or other characters when
you try to print lines and boxes. If this happens, you may want to
use MP's "Setup" feature to:
* On Epson printers, enable Epson or IBM graphics -- line and
shading rather than italic characters.
* On LaserJet and DeskJet printers, select a different font that
you know has line draw characters.
In Newspaper, 2-column format:
* On Epson printers, MP uses resident Epson fonts, but enables
Epson or IBM graphics so you can print lines, boxes and shading.
* On LaserJet and DeskJet printers, if you use MP's fonts, you'll
be able to print just about anything. If you use resident fonts,
who knows what you'll get.
Here's a summary of which characters you can add to your text to
achieve different results. If nothing prints for 1 or more char-
acters, your printer can't handle those ASCII characters in the
printing mode you're using.
